MISSISSAUGA, ON (November 16, 2012) - Everyone knows it’s better to give than to receive, and this Holiday season Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal teams up with Lisa Sanguedolce, a top Canadian cake decorator to create a dazzling gift idea on a tiny budget! Lisa’s signature Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal Holiday Ornament is new for Holiday 2012 and puts a fancy twist on everyone’s favourite – the classic Rice Krispies square! “Who doesn’t love Rice Krispies squares?!” says Lisa Sanguedolce, owner of Le Dolci – Toronto’s fun, food education studio which offers cake and cupcake decorating classes for kids. “For me, there’s a lot of nostalgia and comfort in that delicious combination of marshmallow, butter and Kellogg’s Rice Krispiescereal. It’s an easy and versatile recipe which I’ve adapted using professional decorating techniques to create a beautiful ornament. It’s impressive but so simple, even kids can make it. We’ve also come up with a gorgeous way to wrap them so kids can feel proud to present their thoughtful creations to friends, babysitters, teachers and anyone else they have holiday wishes for. What a great way to celebrate the Holidays – and your main investment is the quality time spent preparing it.”
The delightful, delicious, handmade Holiday gift
The holidays are also a time for gratitude. Celebrating the simple things in life that money can’t buy – like time spent with children. The Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal Holiday Ornament is a fun project that builds bonds, teaches children patience and responsibility and delivers a beautiful, rewarding result that is perfect for sharing.
Spreading holiday glee is easy as one, two, three: Making the Ornament
This project requires just a few ingredients, a little bit of time, and a dash of love! Make the base in the same way it has been made for generations; finish with confectionary decorations available at grocery stores, online or at your local crafting store or cake decorating supply shop and package in cello bags with pretty ribbon, mini decorative bulbs or a jingle bell.
Rice Krispies Base
1. Melt ¼ cup (50 ml) of butter or margarine over low heat
2. Mix a 250g package of marshmallows with butter or margarine until completely melted and remove from heat
3. Stir in a dash of vanilla extract (optional) and mix in six cups (1.5L) ofKellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal until well coated; allow to cool; and form into shape
Once the shape is formed, finish the ball with confectionary decorations such as fondant, sugar beads and sugar crystals. For the more advanced bakers, you can make your own fondant but it’s also available pre-made.
Once complete, package the ornament in a clear cellophane bag, secure the closure with a fabric ribbon tied in a bow with a Holiday trinket like a jingle bell, tiny candy cane or sprig of holly; add a hang tag with your greeting and it’s ready to go!
“Visit ricekrispies.ca for a huge selection of simple and fun recipes to make with the kids,” says Lisa. “Use any Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal in the base recipe for these treats: Colourful Holiday Rice Krispies cereal, Rice Krispies with Vanilla Flavour cereal or Rice Krispies Brown Rice Gluten-Free cereal — for those who have intolerance.”
This Holiday season, time spent with the kids, a beautiful gift made together and doing it all within an affordable budget is a “snap” with Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal.
